As each phase was completed, the inner scaffold was ‘rolled out’ allowing the contractor to continue to their next phase immediately without having to wait for the removal and rebuild of the scaffolding. This saved them both time and money.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe use of Layher scaffolding equipment allowed us to design the scaffolding so that work on-site could carry on whilst the various layers of scaffolding were being “peeled-back”. This was a challenging task in engineering terms, as the corners of the second scaffolding layer had to span approximately 30m with no building to connect the scaffolding to until the buildings corner decks were installed, creating the new ‘square’ design. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eIn addition, one corner of the work had to be carried out over a heritage building, requiring us to build a full crash deck over it as protection. This resulted in the entire corner having to be cantilevered, not an easy task as the scaffolding above the corner extended 40m high!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eNorth Shore Scaffolding also provided propping on the lower floors (to transfer the weight of the scaffold from the podium the scaffold was built on to the ground), as well as propping to allow for cutting out the top two floor slabs and the roof slab.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe full scaffold measured approximately 160m around the building perimeter and was 50m high. The finished project has completed a motorway circuit around the city, which has helped to overcome traffic congestion and provide a direct link between the airport and the CBD.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eNorth Shore Scaffolding was involved with two elements essential for the completion of the tunnel:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eFirst up were the design and implementation of an innovative mobile roof that allowed the cutter head of ‘Alice’ (the tunnel boring machine) to be assembled under shelter. This roof also allowed critical parts to be craned into position when required. Unlike a conventional shrink-wrapped roof, North Shore Scaffolding used a \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/north-shore-scaffolding.myshopify.com\/products\/keder-roof\" title=\"Layher Keder Roof System\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eKeder Roof System\u003c\/a\u003e from Layher, which allowed large sections of the roof to ‘open’ and ‘close’ as required. The Keder Roof System saved our client both time and money, allowing the project to continue on time and undercover, avoiding weather delays.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eNorth Shore Scaffolding was then asked to supply 24\/7 labour for scaffold requirements during the initial four months it took to get Alice operational. We then went on to supply scaffolders and materials for the duration of the project. However, as the project progressed and the requirements of the client and sub-contractors changed, so did our scope of works. To do this North Shore Scaffolding first installed engineered brackets on the wall of the Copthorne Hotel. We then built a series of two-lift scaffolds towers in the Copthorne car park. On the weekend when the cafe was closed we organised a crane lift to install the scaffolding. We were able to keep the scaffolders from standing under the live load by utilising the already installed scaffold on the back of the building. The 30m high scaffold was installed within a day and no interruption to the cafe and its clients were required. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe second challenge was to build another 30m high scaffold without touching the ground, as time-critical groundworks were required. As requested by the client, this was then shrink-wrapped to give safe, dry and full access to the top two floors. North Shore Scaffolding provided the solution to this technically difficult brief in a safe, efficient and tidy manner.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThis iconic Central Auckland building has some unique design features, which required equally unique solutions. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThese included:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe main building at ground level is a podium set above a basement car park, which required \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/north-shore-scaffolding.myshopify.com\/products\/allround-heavy-duty-propping\" title=\"Allround Heavy Duty Propping\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eAllround Heavy Duty Propping\u003c\/a\u003e, to allow access for heavy vehicle deliveries to the site. The small footprint of the Allround Heavy Duty Propping allowed the car park to remain in use for the duration of the project.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe scaffolding built on the podium needed to be as lightweight as possible to eliminate the need for propping in the basement. Thanks to the superior engineering of the Allround Heavy Duty Propping, minimal components were required, thus reducing the weight of the scaffold.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eTwo large gable sections of the upper floors are all glass, so therefore the shrink-wrapped scaffold could not be ‘tied’ to the building.  Due to North Shore Scaffoldings' experience on large buildings in high wind zones, we were able to solve this issue with some clever engineering and outside the box thinking; including utilizing a rooftop deck area for horizontal propping.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eInstallation of one of North Shore Scaffolding’s \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/north-shore-scaffolding.myshopify.com\/products\/geda-hoists\" title=\"Geda Hoists\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eGeda Hoists\u003c\/a\u003e. In this case, a Geda 1200 material and personnel hoist was used, which has a weight carrying capacity of 1500 kg. This hoist played a vital part in erecting and dismantling the scaffold, and also provided safe access for all trades and their required materials to their work areas.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe use of North Shore Scaffolding’s Geda 1200 Material \u0026amp; Personnel hoist and Layher Allround Scaffolding equipment played a vital part in this project being completed on time.
